Steve Rudolph
"Everything I Love"
R&L Records RLCD41049.
The album features appearances by
drummer Roger Humphries and bassists Dwayne Dolphin & Steve Varner
profiling five original compositions by Rudolph and five by other composers.
This new recording highlights Steve's piano stylings in trio format with Roger Humphries and Dwayne Dolphin on Cole Porter's "Everything I Love" , the seductive latin pulse of "Estate` (In Summer)", the classic tribute to Steve's state of birth - "Back Home Again in Indiana", and originals "Lucky Seven Blues" (dedicated to Harrisburg's former jazz mecca), "Three for B.E." (dedicated to pianist Bill Evans), and "This One's For You, Bud" (dedicated to pianist Bud Powell).
Roger Humphries
was drummer with Horace Silver during the 1960's, recorded the timeless
albums Song for My Father and Cape Verdean Blues, and currently
leads his own group, RH Factor, in the Pittsburgh area.
Dwayne
Dolphin was bassist for trumpeter Wynton Marsalis' original
Quintet, Geri Allen's Trio and toured with saxophone giant Stanley
Turrentine.
Duo
performances with bassist Steve Varner on Paul
Desmond's "Wendy" & Bill Evan's "Two Lonely People" along with solo
performances of originals "Zebra #1" & "The Last Lullaby" complete
this captivating program of acoustic jazz.
Recorded on the magnificent Steinway at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild Theater in Pittsburgh, PA, this is Rudolph's first stateside release in seven years. Engineered by Jay Ashby and produced by Rudolph on R&L JAZZ label, this CD will be the first in a series of new recordings from this mature and gifted artist.
