Piano "lesson" with Dexter Gordon in the wee small hours after his performance for the Central PA Friends of Jazz in '84.....
I believe it was the slowest reading of the "correct" changes for Skylark in musical history.

Dexter's appearance single-handedly caused the CPFJ to expand into the major non profit presenter that it is to this day....

Photo from a concert as guest with the Absolut Trio (Paul Rostock, bass; Bill Washer , guitar; & Glenn Davis, drums) at Moravian College, Bethlehem PA March 2004
Buddy Morrow, trombone virtuoso and good guy, my boss for the 1 year, 1 month & 8 days I spent with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.....all he ever asked was that you "play your ass off!!"
I was Buddy's road manager, pianist ('77-'78) and even bus driver for several months - play 7 nights a week, be Boy Scout troop leader, and drive 2000 miles a week - good thing I was young!

Buddy is still leading the Dorsey band and playing great!!

The Trio at Harrisburg's Holiday Inn Town in '79, Frank Smith, bass and "The Baron" John Von Ohlen, drums.  Two very talented Hoosiers who taught me a lot about everything.  The gig was six nights a week with guest artists from everywhere. We backed such notables as Sal Nistico, Bob Mintzer, Johnny Coles, Al Kiger, Morgy Craig, Junior Cook, Joe Lovano, and Cal Collins.  During the Three Mile Island crisis, they left Harrisburg with the note - "It's been great fun - GOODBYE!!"  Frank went to sea on the S.S. Norway and John moved to Cincinnati where he leads the Blue Wisp Big Band
Trio in '84 with Hassan J.J. Wiggins, bass and Chris Waller, drums at the Dobbin House in Gettysburg, our regular Wednesday night haunt for many years.

Hassan is the bassist for the Ellington Orchestra and now also tours with Monty Alexander. Chris leads his own blues band in Central PA...

Artist impression of the Trio w/ Hassan & Chris at the Lucky Seven - Harrisburg's jazz Mecca of the 80's. Helen Moore kept the faith with us for almost ten years - what a wonderful environment for creative music. Guests included John Blake, Eric Kloss, Gerald Veasley, & Cal Collins. Area favorite Tim Warfield did some serious playing at the Lucky 7.

Ah, the '70's - one of my first gigs on piano  was with this great group in Indianapolis - "Mary Ann Moss & Footprints". I was one of the three feet.

Art Riener - drums; John Scott - bass; and Mary Ann Moss - vocal (That's me on the left - eek!!).

My favorite part of the Harrisburg PA area - the Susquehanna River - 1 mile wide and 3 ft. deep with a rocky bottom - perfect for smallmouth bass, crappie, muskie, catfish, bird watching and canoeing.

A very peaceful place.....

Land Ho! Sailing off
St. John during a gig at Blackbeard's Castle in St. Thomas '95 - my third trip.

The hurricane of '95 destroyed the club and ended a great gig.

Playing for a packed house at the Lucky 7 with Eric Kloss and Gerald Veasley .....two of the many great musicians who visited there.

Rehearsal at the Whitaker 10-04-04 for the CD NINE w/      ( l - r) Roger Humphries, Dwayne Dolphin, & Perky Scott

With Al Grey and Buddy Tate in Milan, Italy 1988

With Marko Marcinko, Ilona Knopfler & Francois Moutin - gig in NYC @ the Friar's Club
